Our last full day in Talbenny! We decided to make it a rest day—in other words, to not travel any long distances, and to fully enjoy this lovely cottage we’ve been gifted with.
However, after the multitude of carbs consumed yesterday, Ruth and I were in need of a long walk. So we headed to the coast path, retracing the journey Teresa and I had made a few days ago. We didn’t go as far, and the weather was completely different: a misty, moisty morning, as the old song goes. It was a wonderful way to say good-bye to this part of the world.
Because it had rained in the night, the ground was muddier than on previous walks.
But we made it back to the cottage in time for lunch—which Carol had concocted out of her cooking magic: roasted butternut squash with stuffing and a magnificent salad, using up some of the food we had left from this week.
Later we ran to the store in Broad Haven for MORE BUTTER. That is one essential we cannot do without. The rest of the afternoon was spent simply enjoying this beautiful place. I even got a chance to sit and read on the outdoor patio before the rain came.
For dinner, Carol fixed a superlative dish of roasted Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, onions, and dried cherries, and we finished up the salad and chicken soup. So, so, so good. And it used up most of the leftover food in the fridge, so it was a double blessing. Thank you, Carol!
As the rain came down and the wind blew this evening, we sat around the fire and read and talked and simply enjoyed being together here one last night.
Thank you, God, for this blessed place and these wonderful fellow travelers.
